A service dog without public access is a dog that, just like a regular service dog, has been tested, health-checked, and selected for its particularly good qualities and suitability.
Children and young people under the age of 18 with mobility disabilities can apply for an STH service dog.
The user is involved in the care, training, and grooming of the dog, while the overall responsibility for the dog lies with an adult.
In this case, the dog will not be considered a service dog with public access.
The dog and the child/young person can build a warm and close relationship, and the dog can contribute with joy, security, and friendship, encourage play and physical activity, and act as a natural link to the outside world. The dog also performs specific assistance tasks that the child or young person benefits from in everyday life.
Service dogs without public access do not have access to public places as service dogs do, but may go anywhere that regular family dogs are allowed.
Service dogs without public access can be recognized by their blue STH scarf.
Applicants for a service dog without public access must be at least 10 years old. If the applicant is under 18, a guardian must participate in the application process.
The age requirement follows the international guidelines that STH adheres to and cannot be waived.
Under Section 112 of the Danish Social Services Act, which covers support for aids, the municipality can, in some cases, approve a service dog as an aid. Please note that municipalities do not approve applications retroactively. Therefore, you must also contact your municipality when applying for a service dog without public access through us.
STH provides the dog free of charge to the user for the dog’s entire lifetime. This is only possible thanks to support from foundations, companies, private donations, and municipal grants.
The user pays a one-time fee of DKK 2,500 per placed dog, which covers lifetime membership of STH.

STH is a non-profit organization that has been training service dogs for people with physical disabilities since 1996. We match each dog with the right user to provide security, support, and increased independence in daily life.
